- I just went into Device Manager and updated the driver through there. Got the message 'no drivers available that are more suitable for this device' or something to that effect. According to Device Manager i have Tactrix OpenPort 1.3 connected via COM4 and the device is working and enabled. I also updated Java.
- Tactrix Inc - Makers of Openport and EcuFlash ECU flashing and tuning software and hardware. What OEM J2534 software does the Openport 2.0 work with?

Posts: 6 | After spending the better part of a day struggling to get my $13 cable to work with romraider and ecuflash, I figured I would share what I did to get mine to work.
I've been taking advantage of this forum for quite a while but never made an account.
Windows 10 64 bit
2004 forester xt 5mt
This cable:

1. Installed drivers from disc that came with the cable. Inserted disc and ran the driver install exe as administrator. One of my issues with getting this cable to work came from not running every program as administrator.
2. Download ecuflash 1.28 here: https://evoecu.logic.net/mirror/ecuflash/releases/
Do not download the updated ecu definitions! They will not work with 1.28.
3. Run the ecuflash installation exe as administrator and go through the steps to finish the install.
4. Plug the cable into your computer and go to device manager to change the com port settings. (Control panel - hardware and sound - device manager - ports (com & lpt) - usb serial ch430 - port settings - advanced - change com port number to com1)
5. Plug the obd end into your car.
6. Plug usb into computer.
7. Connect green test connector.
8. Run ecuflash as administrator. (I right clicked ecuflash in file explorer and changed the settings to “always run as administrator”
9. Click options - port - com1
10. Select read from ecu.
11. Choose model
12. You’ll be prompted to turn the key to the on position so do that.
Hopefully it will work and you’re ready to go. This is what worked for me.
I fought with different drivers for a while because the disc that came with the cable would never work. This issue was fixed by running the driver install as administrator.
Also trying to use the new ecu definitions with ecuflash 1.28 caused it to crash. Using the definitions that come with 1.28 worked fine for me.
Changing the com port to com1 was another fix for one of my issues.
Now I'm finally able to get my stage 2 setup going on my fxt for $13!

Select Update Driver. If Windows doesn't find a new driver, you can try looking for one on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions. Reinstall the device driver. In the search box on the taskbar, enter device manager, then select Device Manager. Right-click (or press and hold) the name of the device, and select Uninstall.

Posts: 9 | I thought vag com were not setup to write, only read. Have you tried flashing back? if not mistaken there is 1 type of vag com cable that can write/reflash.. that particular type of chip.. not sure if it was true or not.. since i'm just using vag com for logging (for now)

What year is your fxt? It was a bit of a challenge getting everything to work properly but worth it. 2004 fxt 5mt I thought vag com were not setup to write, only read. Have you tried flashing back? Ive flashed so far without issue around 10 times.

Correct, can confirm it worked for my 06 ADM Prodrive WRX and my 06ADM STI. I have to use tactrix for my 04 STI non DBW thou.

Location: France | Really interesting, also as a back up plan for exemple if your tactix OP 2.0 is out of order (like for me now ).
I have also an old vag.com cable, it is ok for logging with RR
I would like to know if it is possible to have both versions of EcuFlash (V1.28 and last 1.44)
on the laptop ?

Do not forget to assign applicable rommetadata directory for each version.

= OK I think I understand (eg as on last version of EcuFlash you don't have to install the Drivers + J2534 DLL separatly, it is included in ecuflash 1.44 install)
But anyway if my OP2 is fixed I can use EcuFlash 1.44

Posts: 1 | Thanks for these instructions. I can confirm that it does work as well, but I didn't purchase the cable listed. I purchased this cable (https://amzn.to/2Happnk) a few years ago to run FreeSSM and it works with drivers found on the internet. I successfully flashed my 05 OBXT last night with a hybrid image I made for my EJ20X

Solution: Roll your Prolific USB to Serial Driver back to an older version
Updating your drivers often work wonders for your system because it makes sure that it runs on the latest features that guarantee maximum functionality. Unfortunately updating your drivers can cause this kind of error especially if your latest update does not work too well with your hardware. Once you upgrade your PC to the latest Windows version your Prolific USB to Serial Driver also updates to the latest driver software and if the driver is not compatible with your Hardware issues may arise. To correct the error, you will have to download the driver again by following these steps.
- Right-click on your PC Start button and open Device Manager
- Double click LPT and COM ports then locate the Prolific USB to Serial Driver and right-click it so you can select Update Driver
- For driver software click My computer
- From My computer select 'Let me pick from a list of drivers available'
- Choose an older version from the list then click Next
- The driver you selected will be installed automatically
- Once it has been downloaded reconnect the driver to see if it works.

A code 10 error may arise because the chip you are using is not an original one. Window 64 bit Fix

To fix Windows 64 bit OS including Prolific USB to Serial Adapter, follow through these steps.
- Download 'PL2303_64bit_Installer.exe and Save
- Remove every USB to Serial adapter from your PC and double click the 'PL2303_64bit_installer.exe
- Follow the prompt by plugging in one USB to Serial adapter the click on Continue
- Reboot your PC to get Windows up and running
If you have followed these process through and you still see the same error go to your device manager
- Open the control panel and navigate to Device Manager
- From your control panel navigate to the System category and click the Hardware tab
- Scroll to the LPT/COM port and double click Prolific USB to Serial Comm Port
- Click Drivers in the Properties section
- The Driver you choose should read '3.3.2.102 with an appropriate date attached
- If the date is wrong then it means the wrong driver was installed
- Unplug the Serial adapter and run the steps again to install the correct driver
Window 32-bit
Drivers touchscreen. For Windows 32-bit OS systems follow these steps
- You will have to download the 'PL-2303_Driver_Installer.exe and save from Microsoft download link
- Run the program and eradicate the driver if you can
- Run the installer once more to install a correct driver
To Troubleshoot for error if your device still does not work
- Go to Control panel, enter System to access your Device Manager
- Scroll down to the LPT/ COM port then double click Prolific USB to Serial Comm Port
- Click Driver in the Windows Properties section
- The driver must be numbered as '2.0.2.8' and dates accordingly

If the driver was not installed, remove the Serial adapter then run 'PL2303_Driver_Installer.exe' again. Follow directions in Device Manager to download the correct driver
